The owner of a house at Tenth Street of Hong Lok Yuen recovered the unit with the bailiff at 12.30 pm, and found that around 30 cats were left behind by the tenant who had moved out of the flat.
Police were informed as the owner noticed the tenant had failed to provide food and water for the pets and suspected the act may constitute animal abuse.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officers were alerted to follow up on the case.
Some of the cats were found in poor health and were sent to veterinary clinics for treatment.
