TVB actor and actress among six in court after dispute over hospital visit

TVB artistes Belle Lam Wing-tung and Cheng Chun-hei, who was earlier arrested in relation to the JPEX scandal, appeared at the Fanling Magistrates’ Courts on Friday alongside four others over a dispute in which the six failed to visit a girl in hospital. 

The other four are surnamed Sin, Lau, Yeung and Leung. The six of them were charged with obstructing a public officer and behaving disorderly in public. 

The case was heard before acting principal magistrate Cheng Lim-chi for the first time and the six needed not to enter a plea yet. 

The hearing was then adjourned to November 17 as requested by the prosecution, pending further police investigation. The six were also granted bail on existing conditions. 

It was understood that the six attempted to visit a girl from a child abuse case in hospital on Monday but were denied by the doctor and a Social Welfare Department social worker because of a court protection order. 

Sin, the mother of that girl, reacted emotionally and a dispute erupted between the two sides. The dispute disturbed other patients and the social worker filed a police report. The six were then arrested. 

Lam, wearing a cropped white top and black yoga pants, appeared to be at ease as she smiled at cameras outside the court building. Cheng, arrested on Wednesday over his involvement in the alleged JPEX cryptocurrency fraud, also wore a white T-shirt and black trousers. 

Lam told reporters that she grew up in a single-parent family and she understands that close bond between mother and daughter very well.
