The 59-member team headed to Turkey in February to assist with search and rescue work in the earthquake area and was awarded the first Chief Executive's Award for Exemplary Performance.
The rescue team consisted of members from the Security Bureau, Fire Services Department, Department of Health, and Immigration Department, along with two rescue dogs and 8 tons of rescue equipment.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu stated that the rescue team faced a strenuous situation in Turkey, such as the possibility of aftershocks, falling debris and harsh weather, but still strived to save lives and ultimately rescued four survivors and found six bodies under the rubble during the nine-day mission.
They showed their drive to help others, their professionalism and the ability to work with others in completing the mission, Lee added.
He pointed out that the first round of nominations opened in March and received over 20 recommendations, most involving inter-bureau and inter-departmental collaborations.
The award ceremony will be held in mid-July.
The Hong Kong leader introduced the "Chief Executive's Award for Exemplary Performance" in his 2022 policy address to recognize meritorious teams and individuals, along with encouraging civil servants to strive for excellence.
