A poodle was found locked in a private car for three hours in Ma On Shan and was later rescued by firefighters on Friday night as they broke one of the windows to retrieve the dog.
The discovery was made by a citizen who first found his parking space in Yiu On Estate had been taken by another car and left a note for the driver. The citizen then spotted the poodle inside as he was about to leave the car park.
The citizen also found all the windows were locked and, worrying about the dog’s safety, contacted the security guard to file a police report at around 10 pm last night.
Firefighters, police, and staffers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals soon came but failed to contact the car owner. Firefighters broke the driver's side window to rescue the dog around midnight.
It is understood that the poodle, aged about three to four, is a male and in good health. According to security camera footage, the car entered the car park at about 9 pm, and it was estimated that the dog had been trapped for about three hours.
There was a small plastic cage in the car’s trunk, and officers believed the poodle left the cage on its own.
Police listed the case as animal abuse and passed it to the Sha Tin district crime investigation team. No one has been arrested so far.
