Young man falls to his death in New Town Plaza

A 19-year-old man fell to his death this morning in New Town Plaza in Sha Tin.

Police received reports at 11.28am, saying that a man fell from height in New Town Plaza Phase 1 in Sha Tin. The man, heavily wounded, lied on the ground of the atrium in the mall.

Officers and medics soon arrived and found the man unconscious. He was then rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital but he was later certified dead.

Police identified the man to be a 19-year-old man surnamed Tang.

Officers also said no suicide note was found at the scene, and primary investigation suggested that the man fell from an escalator in the mall. The cause of his death awaits further forensic examinations.

According to sources, Tang suspectedly jumped down through a gap between an escalator and a glass barrier on the eighth floor, and fell onto the atrium on the third floor.
