Hang Seng extends gains

Stocks are extending gains today in Hong Kong in a shortened  trading session. The benchmark Hang Seng Index moved higher at 27,305.67, up by 158.56 points, or 0.58 percent.

The market will remain closed all day on January 1, a public holiday.

Shares in Alibaba Group (9988) have dropped by 2.88 percent at HK$229.40. Mainland chipmaker SMIC (0981) added 4.66 percent at HK$21.35, while  Tencent (0700) is steady at HK$561.50.

The broader Hang Seng Tech Index added 128.91 points, or 1.55 percent.

Stocks closed Wednesday on a 10-month high. The HSI soared by 578.62 points at 27,147.11. Turnover was HK$68.7 billion.
