Starting next month, the quarantine period for cats and dogs imported from Macau will be shortened from 120 days to just 30 days, according to the government.
Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan said Thursday that the quarantine period would be shortened only if the pets meet the requirements for rabies vaccination and rabies antibody titer testing.
The new arrangement will also shorten the 15-month waiting period for quarantine facilities, with the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) set to announce more details next Tuesday (Nov 26).
Tse noted that the new measures uphold the government's commitment to stringently controlling rabies while using technology to address public demand.
He also look forward to gradually extending the arrangements to other regions in Group III, further assisting pet owners in bringing their cats and dogs to Hong Kong.
