Customs and police officers conducted an in-depth investigation and suspected that there were criminals conducting smuggling activities near Sai Kung in recent days.
During the operation yesterday night (Mar 4), a speedboat with its navigation light turned off headed near the West Dam of the High Island Reservoir, with a seven-seater van arriving nearby.
Two men got out of the van and were seen moving products onto the speedboat.
The officers then sprang into action, and the two men instantly jumped onto the speedboat and fled southwards at high speed leaving the boxes of suspected live lobsters behind.
The marine police conducted a chase, but the speedboat was able to leave Hong Kong through the eastern waters.
During the operation, they were able to seize 21 boxes of the illicit cargo weighing around 417 kilograms, along with a seven-seater van, a total market value of approximately HK$320,000.
The case has now been handed over to customs for follow-up.
