The conclusion of the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou saw Hong Kong, China's Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team bagging two medals, which represents the best-ever results for the city's participation in the Asian Games.
The equestrian events comprise dressage, eventing and show jumping. The two medals were from the dressage discipline, with Jacqueline Siu winning silver in the individual contest and the team winning the bronze medal.
The Hong Kong Equestrian Team has won one medal in each of the three previous Asian Games, including the Guangzhou in 2010, Incheon in 2014 and Jakarta in 2018. The two medals obtained this year in Hangzhou were the best achievement of the team in Asiad ever.
The HKJC Equestrian Team, comprising nine members, is representing Hong Kong, China in the dressage, show jumping and eventing competitions, with a total of 11 horse-rider combinations.
It is the largest Equestrian Team Hong Kong, China squad ever to compete in the Asian Games, and the first time the team participated in both individual and team events in all three disciplines.
Jacqueline Siu and the HKJC Equestrian Team that competed in the dressage discipline were qualified for the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme. Siu and the team will receive an HK$500,000 cash award, respectively.
The award scheme aims to acknowledge athletes who have excelled in mega sports events and to further support Hong Kong's sports development.
