YouTuber “Carriage” Lau Chun-hin has received a life ban from participating in any races organized by the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates in the future after he jumped into a marathon halfway in February.
Lau live-streamed his run, finished the race, and collected the medal without prior registration for the February 12 event.
On Thursday, the HKAAA issued a statement and solemnly condemned Lau, saying he had attempted to break into the starting line and the race route without registration. He ignored workers’ reminders and instructions multiple times as well.
The HKAAA then decided to hand Lau a life ban from participating in any races they organize in the future, including but not limited to the Hong Kong Marathon.
The HKAAA stressed they would follow up on any acts that affect the smooth operation of the race or the safety of workers in a serious manner.
It was recently suspected that Lau – just released from a mainland prison this January – got himself into legal trouble again, as a man sharing the same name, Lau Chun-hin, appeared in the Tuen Mun Court in May.
