Sogo department store Tsim Sha Tsui branch will have its door closing down on March 12 and relocate to Kai Tak, said its parent corporation Lifestyle International Holdings on Monday.
The Causeway Bay store will operate as usual, and the to-be-established Kai Tak store will start trial operation by the end of the year.
"We are worried that the Chinese visitors brought by the restored travels between Hong Kong and the mainland may not be able to bring a significant boost to the wholesale industry in Hong Kong in the short term," said Lifestyle today.
The corporation has been facing a decline in business turnover since 2019, noting that the overall sales volume of the TST outlet saw a plummet of 22 percent last year.
"The TST store will cease operation on March 12 this year due to the expiry of its lease," the corporation confirmed, "a series of promotions will be offered before the closing date to show our gratitude to customers."
Most of the netizens said they were not surprised by the closing of the Tsim Sha Tsui store, citing its location was not convenient. Some even said that they did not know where the TST store was.
SOGO is one of the biggest Japanese-style department stores in Hong Kong, with current Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui branches.
