Music and acrobatics come together to bring ocean creatures to life in City Chamber Orchestra's Shark Symphony, held at Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium on April 20 and 21.
The orchestra's founder and artistic director Leanne Nicholls had previously produced two animal musicals: Wild (The Musical) and Bug Symphony. "The staging this time has been challenging. We'll be using a holographic projection and we've never used that technology before."
Shark Symphony tells the story of two businessmen running an underwater restaurant that serves sustainable seafood. However, the serving of shark fin soup at a wedding sparks tensions.
"The show is not only a musical experience but also an intellectual journey," said Nicholls. "I needed to think about how to get that message across to the audience without it feeling like a lecture."
This is where sea creatures come in. "The cyr wheel is special because it's not often to see such an act in a musical. The serenity of the performance complements the atmosphere of the sea," she said.
After the performances, there will be a post-show discussion led by the Shark Foundation.
