9GAG, the world-renowned platform for user-generated content and memes, announced on Monday the official launch of its first-ever original IP character, “Potatoz,” in Hong Kong.
The launch is being celebrated with a city-wide treasure hunt in collaboration with over 20 Food & Beverage brands and nearly 40 outlets to give away free fries
The inspiration for “Potatoz” comes from a beloved 9GAG community tradition, where users who share a lengthy post often end it with the phrase, “Sorry for the long post, here’s a Potato,” as a humorous reward for readers who reach the end.
Bringing the character from the digital world to reality, 9GAG is launching a collection of “Potatoz” merchandise, including plushies, cushions, pins, and stickers.
Meet “Potatoz” in person at the Amazing Toy Show!
Fans can meet Potatoz in person at the Amazing Toy Show, running from December 12 to 14 in the Grand Ballroom on the 16th floor of the Hopewell Hotel in Wan Chai.
Making its official offline debut, 9GAG will feature a custom-designed farm truck for transporting “Potatoz,” creating a unique, Hong Kong-style photo opportunity. Fans are invited to come and “dig up” some Potatoz and experience the charm of this new IP firsthand.
Golden P City Hunt: Dig for Golden Potatoes this Christmas
9GAG is launching the “Golden P” City Hunt, joining forces with over 20 Food & Beverage brands across nearly 40 restaurants to give away “golden potatoes.”
The first 2,000 people who join the “Potatoz Club” and spend HK$200 or more at the official 9GAG shop will be eligible to participate. Furthermore, 150 “Golden P” participation slots will be reserved daily at the Amazing Toy Show.
From December 24 to 31, 2025, members can visit any partner restaurant, present their membership QR code, and redeem a complimentary portion of french fries or other fried potato snacks.
In a special collaboration, 9GAG has also partnered with Ocean Park Hong Kong. In addition to the Golden Fried Chicken restaurant participating in the “Golden P” campaign, visitors can head to the Giant Panda Adventure to see a limited-time seasonal theme featuring the giant panda cubs—elder sister Jia Jia and little brother De De—alongside “Potatoz.”
