To revisit the timeless charm of beloved 1980s Cantopop idol Danny Chan Pak-keung, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) will honor the legend with a special concert titled "Cherish Tonight" on June 6 and 7, filling the concert hall with his classic melodies.
Conducted by Chew Hee-chiat, the assistant artistic director and resident conductor of the HKCO, the concert will feature a selection of Chan's classic hits performed by a group of talented performers.
As a highlight of the "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2025," the concert will combine Chan's original vocal recordings with his archival footage. Romantic songs such as "Just Like You," "What More Can I Ask For," and "Ripples" will enchant the audience's ears with the blend of his mesmerizing voice and live orchestral performance, offering a familiar yet refreshing experience.
Additionally, chromatic harmonica player Ho Cheuk-yin and HKCO's gehu principal Tung Hiu-lo will perform four re-arranged pieces inspired by Chan's expression of "longing," including songs like "Waiting," "When I Think of You," "The Fate of Hope," and "In Memory of My Parent," showcasing the fusion of Chinese music with the magic of the legendary crooner.
Local composer Ng Cheuk-yin has also collaborated to create a suite titled "Deeply In Love With You," featuring representative songs such as "Love Prediction" and "Star Plucking," capturing Chan's emotions through the Chinese orchestra.
The concert will take place at 8pm on June 6 and 7, with an additional performance at 3pm on June 7 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Limited tickets are still available, with prices ranging from HK$280 to HK$600.
