Anti-aging trends have been taking over the wellness world, but what are some truly effective eating habits to delay aging? Experts have narrowed it down to five anti-aging foods and beverages that help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, maintain heart health, and have skin-beautifying effects – all of which can combat signs of aging like dark spots and wrinkles.
British tabloid Express recently interviewed food expert Phil Bianchi, who listed five foods and drinks that have the effect of “making people look ten years younger”. These foods that effectively reverse the appearance of aging have health benefits such as anti-inflammatory and cholesterol-lowering effects.
This unassuming ingredient commonly used in cooking actually has a variety of anti-aging properties, including the powerful anti-inflammatory effects of the monounsaturated fatty acid, oleic acid, that can slow down skin aging.
Moreover, olive oil also helps reduce bad cholesterol which contributes to the prevention of stroke and high blood pressure, especially common health issues among the older population.
Many already know of this popular beverage’s aging reversal effects, but it is known as such due to its rich vitamin B2 content.
Vitamin B2 helps tighten the skin and contains an abundance of antioxidants that can prevent fine lines or wrinkles. So starting your morning off with a cup of green tea is capable of making a world of difference.
Chocolate is not something you have to give up in order to age youthfully. In fact, it is even recommended to enjoy dark chocolate in moderation – around 2 ounces every day – to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
This healthy amount of dark chocolate effectively reduces inflammation and promotes blood circulation in the skin, allowing for a more youthful look and aiding in long-term skin hydration.
Dark chocolate also contains flavanols, a natural compound commonly found in plants, that protect the skin from sun damage and reduce wrinkles caused by prolonged exposure to the sun.
This bright fruit contains antioxidants that protect collagen by simultaneously preventing its breakdown and increasing its production. It also slows down skin aging.
Furthermore, studies have found that pomegranates help reduce sun damage and lighten dark spots on the skin. It is rich in various nutrients that offer multiple benefits for the body.
With a water content of 92 percent, watermelons are incredibly hydrating, which is also beneficial for the skin.
It also contains large amounts of vitamins A, B, and C. These abundant vitamins help brighten the complexion, leading to healthier skin and creating youthful, soft skin.
Bianchi recommended a specific type of smoothie that utilises the anti-aging foods mentioned above, alongside various other healthy ingredients. Paired with a cup of green tea, it creates the ultimate breakfast that will infuse your day with energy, delaying aging in both the body and skin.
The other ingredients mentioned are mixed berries, bananas, oat milk, protein powder, oats, as well as an optional dose of mixed nuts and seeds and maple sugar for sweetness.
