Hong Kong tennis sensation Coleman Wong Chak-lam pushed world No. 27 Valentin Vacherot and fell 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 in the Mexican Open first round after nearly two hours.
21-year-old Wong, ranked a career-high 125, entered the ATP 500 Mexican Open main draw as a lucky loser after losing in qualifying.
Facing 27-year-old Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot, who won the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters, Wong took the first set 6-4 by breaking in the seventh game.
His first-serve percentage dropped below 70 percent in the second set, leading to a break in game six and a 6-3 loss.
In the decider, Vacherot broke twice in games one and seven to win 6-2.
Wong exited after 1 hour 57 minutes, missing a chance to better his best ATP 500 result.
