The Civil Service Bureau has started its first roving recruitment talks in Shanghai and Beijing yesterday to get more Hong Kong students studying in the mainland to sign up.
Students will be briefed on the work involved in different grades, job opportunities and the recruitment process.
The first talk, on administrative officer and executive officer grades, was held yesterday at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai for students studying or residing in Shanghai who wish to apply for civil service posts to take part on site or via the internet in real time.
Recruitment seminars for posts in the two grades will also be held at the SAR government offices in Beijing, as well as the campuses of Peking, Tsinghua and Fudan universities.
Serving officers from the two grades who graduated from mainland universities will share their experiences at their alma maters, including how to apply as well as answer queries.
Civil service chief Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan went to Sun Yat-sen and Jinan universities in Guangdong and Huaqiao university in Fujian to brief students on job opportunities last week.
Figures show around 4,890 students applied to mainland institutions last year using their Diploma of Secondary Education exam results.
A drive to fill posts for the two grades as well as assistant labor, assistant trade, management services and transport officer vacancies will be held in the middle of this month.
Recruitment drives to fill vacancies in departments and the two grades are planned this year, while year-round recruitment will be held for a number of grades.
Application requirements have also been extended at 22 departments or grades to cover students who are currently undergrads or postgrads and will graduate in 2025.
An additional test center for civil service exams such as the joint recruitment, common recruitment examinations and the Basic Law and national security law test, will be set up in Shanghai in December.
The bureau and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong signed an agreement in Guangzhou on civil service staff exchanges and collaborations between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
