Costly district council election loss

At least three district council election candidates, including Liberal Party's TVB host Adrianna Sung Chih-ling, declared over HK$600,000 in election expenses but eventually failed to get elected.

In the most star-studded Wan Chai district, Sung got the backing of Liberal Party to run in the election - ending with around 3,000 votes which ranked second to last in the district.

Among the HK$600,000 in expenses, Sung used HK$240,000 for election advertisements, which includes purchasing two polo shirts from Ralph Lauren worth over HK$1,000.

Two candidates from New Prospect of Hong Kong, So Ching-yin, who ran in Wong Tai Sin East, and Koby Wong Lok-yin, who ran in Wong Tai Sin West, declared HK$670,000 and HK$610,000 in electoral expenses respectively, but they were only able to garner around 4,000 and 5,000 votes.

The figures prove that money does not guarantee votes.

Tsing Yi's Lo Yuen-ting, and Yiu Ming from Wu Tip Shan of the North district council, were the female and male councilors who claimed the most votes in the polls, each snatching over 20,000 votes. Lo only declared HK$490,000 in expenses, while Yiu declared HK$370,000.
