At least three more community living rooms will be set up by the government this year, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced as he visited grassroots families yesterday.
Among the new community living rooms, two - in Shau Kei Wan and Kowloon City - have already received funding from the Community Care Fund.
Lee said these projects are expected to be operational by mid-year.
In a Facebook post, Lee also revealed that the first batch of light public housing units on Yau Pok Road in Yuen Long will be ready for occupancy in the first quarter of this year.
The government plans to launch the second round of light public housing applications soon.
Lee visited the community living room in Hung Hom on Saturday, accompanied by Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin and Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han, and alongside culinary students prepared a meal for grassroots families.
"Some grassroots families shared that the community living room provides them with another 'home,' complete with a shared kitchen, laundry room and bathroom, in addition to community support services for students," Lee said. "[The community living room] not only enhances the families' living quality but also expands their social networks."
Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing also spread early Lunar New Year blessings during his community visit yesterday, when he reached out to seniors living alone and residents of subdivided flats in Tai Kok Tsui. Cheuk said he arrived with an assortment of gifts, including fruit baskets, biscuits, panda dolls, turnip cakes and Chinese sausages.
Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho recorded heartfelt video messages of blessings and engaged with elderly residents as she visited Kwai Fong Estate in Kwai Chung.
Ho also visited Kai Tin Estate in Lam Tin with lawmakers yesterday and joined members of the community in painting Chinese artworks and writing spring couplets.
Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan visited Shui Chuen O Estate and exchanged views with tenants as well as sent warm festive blessings.
Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak Mei-kuen and Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau visited singleton and doubleton elderly households living in Oi Man Estate and Wah Fu Estate respectively.
