The government aims to commence detailed planning and design for the South Island Line (West) project this year, targeting the completion of the Northern Link in the Northern Metropolis by 2027.

Construction of the remaining sections of Route 6 - the Central Kowloon Route, Trunk Road T2, and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel - is nearly complete.

The Central Kowloon Route is expected to be finished by the end of this year, with the entire Route 6 set to be fully operational by next year.

"These projects will significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel times," Paul Chan said.

The construction of the first phase of the Northern Link (NOL), which includes the Kwu Tung Station, is underway and also targeted for completion in 2027.

Chan said that advance works for the second phase have begun, aligning with the planned completion of the NOL Main Line by 2034.

Also, Chan emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the mainland through cross-border infrastructure.

The government is collaborating closely with Shenzhen authorities to advance two major rail projects: the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu-Qianhai) and the Northern Link Spur Line.

Studies for the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link are expected to begin this year, alongside detailed planning for the Northern Link Spur Line.
