The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a cold weather warning with the onset of a significant drop in temperatures that expected to continue over the coming days.
In light of the chilly conditions, the weather authority has advised the public to dress warmly and maintain proper indoor ventilation.
The Observatory urged residents to check on the elderly and those with chronic illnesses living alone to ensure they receive adequate support during this cold spell.
A cold front sweeping across the Guangdong coast, combined with an intense winter monsoon, is driving the current weather patterns.Today, urban areas can expect minimum temperatures of around 10 degrees Celsius, while parts of the New Territories and high-altitude areas may experience temperatures below seven degrees.
As Lunar New Year's Eve approaches, the cold will persist, with morning temperatures projected to be between 12 and 18 degrees. The chill will linger as the Year of the Snake begins, with temperatures ranging from 13 to 18 degrees.
In the coming days, the weather is expected to become increasingly cloudy, with the possibility of light rain patches.
