Tourism and the silver economy are vital to Hong Kong's future, and authorities should bring together society and lawmakers to strengthen efforts in these areas, said Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing.
He proposed enhancing job-matching services for the elderly as a means to address the current manpower shortage and stimulate public consumption.
For example, he suggested introducing small-portion or soft food options, taking inspiration from Japan, to accommodate the limited chewing ability and stomach capacity often experienced by the elderly.
To improve the effectiveness of the exchange sessions, the government plans to reorganize them by dividing participants into groups based on Legislative Council panels."Each group discussion will be co-hosted by relevant bureau directors and panel chairpersons, who will consult on the subject matter beforehand," Cheuk said.
He also said that arrangements would be made for these directors and chairpersons to meet with the media afterward, aiming to make the discussions more in-depth, focused, and seamless. These new arrangements will take effect starting with the next exchange session.
