More than 150 students in grades four to six of primary school and their parents participated in the Department of Justice's open day at the Judicial Center in Central yesterday.

Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan interacted with children at the event, advising them to abide by the law and protect the rule of law in Hong Kong.

The activities included a drama involving elements of the rule of law by enhancing students' awareness of being law-abiding and cultivating the spirit of the rule of law.

At a moot court, young lawyers from the Department of Justice introduced Hong Kong's criminal procedure system, including the roles of different people in court and the criminal trial process.

They also visited the old Court of Final Appeal and took group photos.

Principal Government Counsel Peggy Au Yeung Wai-yu said the event was successful as she was impressed with one student who understood the burden of proof required for a criminal trial.
