Gold or no gold? It's just common sense

Gold in the mud and ready to be picked up?

A Facebook post right after Friday's once-in-a-century downpour left many a netizen bewildered after claiming a Hongkonger was so smart to go gold-mining in the mud in the aftermath of widespread flooding.

A broken muddy jar of gold coins, so said the caption of the Facebook photo.

"Pay attention to flooded areas. Lucky people find treasure in the mud," it says.

But some eagle-eyes in the Internet world were quick to discover the gold coins purportedly picked up from the mud were actually somewhere in Milan, Italy.

It was nothing but a joke. Water rain down in a storm, but no gold coins.

Nonetheless, some responded saying they had already gone gold hunting since it's an opportunity once in 500 years.

Some bothered putting the record straight: the photo was taken in Italy in 2018.
