A web user uploaded a photo of a child apparently sitting on the lap of an adult in the driver's seat of a Tesla electric vehicle with his hand on the steering wheel during a traffic jam caused by the fatal traffic accident at the tunnel.
The photo was captioned: "When will the traffic jam end, it has been one and a half hours," with a baby emoticon pasted on it.
Many internet users blasted the driver for dangerous driving and mocked: "Why are people so fond of uploading evidence of their crime online?" while some suggested the driver turn himself in.
The uploader changed the account username and took down the post after the incident.
Earlier this month, a 71-year-old man, surnamed Lee, allegedly put his grandson on his lap and drove a light goods vehicle in a carpark. He was later arrested for dangerous driving. It was said that the child apparently managed to make a turn by steering the wheel.
It is understood that Lee is a motorbike technician. He has been released on police bail on condition to report to the police early next month.
Meanwhile, the 53-year-old BMW driver who was hit and killed by a truck near Tai Lam Tunnel on Monday was a council member of the building surveying division of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors.
Henry Chau Bing-che was inspecting his car for damages from a side collision with an electric vehicle when he was hit by a heavy goods vehicle, sending him through the air for some 10 meters.
Chau was brought to Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan unconscious, and was pronounced dead after an hour.
People within the profession said Chau always shared professional knowledge with his peers and promoted activities within the surveying profession. They are all saddened and mourning the loss of Chau.
