Race is on for passes to United Academy friendlies

About 13,000 free tickets are up for grabs starting from 10am today for Manchester United Academy U16 team's friendly matches with Hong Kong youth football players on August 9 and 12 at Mong Kok Stadium.

The academy team returns to the city after five years as part of the government's Happy Hong Kong campaign. The matches will feature guest appearances from Manchester United striker Diego Forlan and center-back Nemanja Vidic.

The visitors will play against the Hong Kong U18 representative team on August 9 and the Hong Kong youth select team on August 12.

Singer-songwriters Gareth Tong Ling-shan and Kaho Hung will perform on match days.

Sports and football game booths will be set up with prizes, and photo opportunities such as the 2023 Carabao Cup Trophy and Old Trafford and player backdrops.

The teams will take part in training sessions, friendly matches, cultural activities and community service.

Organizer Hong Kong Jockey Club is hosting the Jockey Club Youth Football Academy Summit 2023, in collaboration with Manchester United and the Football Association of Hong Kong, to encourage youth development and combine cultural exchange, creative inspiration and athletic training.

He said the Jockey Club Youth Football Academy Summit will be an amazing opportunity.

Manchester United ambassador Denis Irwin recalled his previous visits to Hong Kong. "I can see the technicality and the ability that young boys and girls have over here. I know our under-16s will have a hell of a game on when they come across," he said.
