Two carriages from a retired Mid-life Refurbishment train of the East Rail Line and a retired Phase 2 Light Rail Vehicle were opened to students last Saturday at Ying Wa College and Primary School, as a part the MTR's Legacy Train Revitalization Program.
The firm's operation director, Tony Lee Kar-yun, said he welcomes the move and the MTR will keep exploring with organizations and social partners to make good use of retired train resources. The revitalization program, launched in 2021, had turned more than 400 decommissioned train parts to different uses. The project at Ying Wa was the first time that train carriages had been sent into a school campus after being up-cycled.
