Chomped in an empty sandwich scam

Look before you're bitten is the message from a sandwich experience suffered by a man in Sheung Shui.

He bought what he thought was a HK$10 spam and egg sandwich from a bakery in Choi Yuen Estate only to find it seriously lacking in substance.

For as he told it on Facebook backed by photos, there was a thin sliver of spam carefully arranged near the edges of the bread to give the illusion of a real sandwich.

He said he understood small bakeries located in housing estates are struggling nowadays, but this was not the way to do business. After his story circulated people joined in to say the sandwich was a "rip off" and a "scam."

But some pointed out that what there was of the sandwich cost HK$10 - considerably less than what you'd pay in a business district.

And while the message is to inspect purported sandwiches carefully before a purchase, anyone who starts fingering and separating slices of bread - if they're not wrapped - is going to get a rightful tongue-lashing from other customers.
