All seniors to travel cheaply with JoyYou

Seniors of 65 or more who enjoy HK$2 concessionary travel must switch to using the JoyYou Card - an Octopus card with a holder's name and photograph - to continue riding cheaply on the MTR, buses and minibuses, ferries and trams.

Applications for JoyYou cards can be made in June until the end of October next year in batches according to age.

People born in 1956 can register for the card from June 1 to 30, while the following months will each be dedicated to applications for those born in 1955 back to 1938 or before.

The eligible age for the concession scheme for seniors had already been lowered from 65 to 60, with people under 65 already using JoyYou cards. So now 65-plus people will switch. People can submit applications via the Octopus mobile app or by posting a form to Octopus Cards.

Distribution points of paper application forms will also be increased from over 330 to over 500 from June 1. They include 97 customer service centers in MTR stations, 210 district elderly community centers, 190 estate offices under the Hong Kong Housing Authority and 20 under the Hong Kong Housing Society.
