The 29-year-old driver, Lau, was still in Tuen Mun Hospital's accident and emergency department as of 10pm yesterday.
The 21-year-old Pakistani driver of the white seven-seater, Mohammad, was arrested for dangerous driving. He remains in custody as of last night.
According to dashcam footage circulated online, the grey vehicle was driving on the third lane from the left on Tuen Mun Road toward Tsuen Wan when the white vehicle approached at high speed.
The white vehicle was weaving rapidly between lanes to overtake traffic.
During uncoordinated and high-speed attempts to switch back and forth between lanes, Mohammad lost control and collided with Lau's vehicle from the side.
Lau's vehicle was lifted off the ground at the moment of impact and began rolling on its side toward the left side of the road.
After flipping nine times and hitting a barricade, Lau's vehicle finally came to a stop on the left shoulder of the road while upside down.
Immediately after the crash, white smoke began emanating from the underside of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Mohammad finally gained control of his vehicle and drove to a stop. Others immediately followed suit and stopped their vehicles to help out.
During the course of the crash, personal belongings and shattered glass were left scattered across the road.
Lau's vehicle was badly damaged with the front bumper nearly detached and both front and rear axles bent. Firefighters arrived on the scene and rescued the trapped Lau before rushing him to Tuen Mun Hospital in a conscious state.
Lau sustained injuries to his chest and arms according to officers.
