A video circulating online, which appears to show four large dogs attacking and killing a small cat in a Sheung Shui village, has ignited widespread public anger and heightened concerns over pet owner responsibility. The incident comes on the heels of other recent dog attacks, including a fatal mauling of a dog in Yuen Long and a separate incident in Ta Kwu Ling, resulting in a human fatality.
According to the person who posted the video, the incident occurred on July 30 in Tin Ping Shan Tsuen. They claimed that an individual from outside the village was walking four large dogs without leashes.
When the dogs entered the village, they allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on a small, free-roaming cat. The poster accused the dog owner of being indifferent and failing to intervene, allowing the dogs to repeatedly bite the cat.
The one-minute video clip begins by showing a light-colored cat near the gate of a village house. Four large, brown, unmuzzled, and unleashed dogs suddenly rush into the frame.
Two of the dogs immediately pounce on the cat, pinning it to the ground and biting it, while the other two circle nearby. The cat can be seen struggling amid sounds resembling screams.
The attack continues until a person is heard shouting off-camera, at which point the video freezes. The poster claims the cat later died from its internal injuries.
The person who shared the video described the event as heartbreaking and expressed fears that a similar incident could happen again, potentially endangering young children who play in the village. They urged the public to help hold the owner accountable.
The video has triggered a strong reaction online, with many netizens expressing their fury. "The dog owner just let the dogs go and bite the cat," one user commented. Another wrote, "Report this to the police. The dog owner cannot be let go." Many are calling for police and relevant authorities to investigate the incident for any illegal acts.
