AI Guided Vision: Invisible Co-Pilot is Revolutionizing Diagnostics
In the bustling heart of Hong Kong’s Science Park, a team from the Chinese University of Hong Kong is quietly rewriting the rules of medical diagnostics. Imsight Technology (視見科技), a homegrown research powerhouse, has been bridging the gap between complex artificial intelligence and the high-stakes world of healthcare.
The core of their innovation lies in AI-assisted medical imaging. By utilizing Deep Learning—specifically 3D Convolutional Neural Networks—Imsight’s systems act as an "invisible co-pilot" for radiologists and pathologists. These algorithms analyze vast amounts of data from X-rays, CT scans, and pathology slides, identifying early signs of diseases like lung cancer with a staggering 90-95% sensitivity.
"The AI doesn't replace the doctor; it empowers them," the team shared. In a field where a single CT scan can contain 400 images and a pathology case upwards of 40,000 cells, at Imsight, we can condense a 20-30 minute manual review into just 10 seconds. This efficiency is critical in the Greater Bay Area and beyond, where high case volumes put immense pressure on staff.
Last year, we pioneered Hong Kong’s first lung cancer screening programme for non-smokers in partnership with CU Medicine.”
In a study of 1,000 cases, the AI flagged 11 early-stage cases that might have otherwise gone unnoticed, allowing for life-saving intervention. With HKSTP support, Imsight is now expanding to Europe and Southeast Asia, ensuring their "Made in Hong Kong" AI acts as a vital frontline defense in protecting public health.

Bridging the Digital Gap: Ultra High Point’s Vision for the Smart Hospital
Also within the Science Park ecosystem, Ultra High Point (極高點) is redefining clinical efficiency through a seamless blend of proprietary software and IoT hardware. As hospitals continue to enhance operational accuracy and reduce reliance on manual processes, the company’s comprehensive management system offers a unified interface for everything from registration to pharmacy integration.
A standout feature is the Smart Drug Picking Solution. Using a "pick-to-light" system, pharmacists no longer rely on memory; scanning a prescription triggers visual cues on the racks, accelerating dispensing while ensuring pinpoint accuracy.
The innovation extends into the operating theatre. Ultra High Point’s Smart Drug Kit Management Solution, designed for anaesthesia and emergency medication management, uses RFID-tagged bottles to provide real-time validation. The system uses color-coded alerts—green for correct, red for expired, and orange for quantity mismatches—to enhance medication safety and workflow efficiency. Beyond the pharmacy, Ultra High Point has digitized specimen logistics, pairing patient IDs with RFID tags to create an immutable chain of custody from ward to lab.
A New Standard for Medicine
The synergy between Imsight’s diagnostic intelligence and Ultra High Point’s operational precision represents a paradigm shift in modern medicine. By automating the mundane and highlighting the critical, these innovations ensure that healthcare remains human-centric, reducing burnout for clinicians while delivering faster, safer outcomes for patients worldwide.
Looking ahead, HKSTP is accelerating this momentum through the INNOPOLE project at San Tin Technopole. By championing the "AI+" initiative, HKSTP aims to integrate artificial intelligence across diverse industries—including life and health technology, new energy, and advanced manufacturing—to cultivate "new quality productive forces" and solidify Hong Kong’s position as an international innovation hub.
