A P-plate Mercedes was found crashed into a tunnel wall on Lin Cheung Road early Saturday morning with airbags deployed and severe front-end damage, but the driver was nowhere to be found.
A video circulating online this morning shows a Mercedes private car bearing a probationary driver plate stopped inside the tunnel between Lin Cheung Road and West Kowloon’s Austin Road West.
The front was smashed against the wall, the bumper detached, the windscreen shattered, and the airbags inflated, yet the car was empty.
The footage captured the filmer repeatedly expressing surprise and asking where the driver had gone, noting that parking is not allowed there.
The crash site is the underground section of Lin Cheung Road linking Jordan Road and Austin Road West, near the Moonlight Court at 1 Austin Road West.
Netizens commented that the sharp bend often causes vehicles to lose control if driven over 80 km/h due to road design issues, with similar crashes happening frequently. Others suggested that speeding on that curve with worn tires easily leads to skids.

Some uploaded photos show three women standing beside the wrecked car shortly after, though it is unclear if they were connected to the vehicle. Eventually, the scene was deserted.
Police received a report at 5.40am from a man who spotted the crashed car suspected of hitting the wall on its own.
When officers arrived, only the vehicle remained with no one present. The case is classified as a traffic accident with no injuries, and police are trying to contact the driver to establish what happened.
