The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) hosted an awards ceremony on Monday (Mar 16) to honour Hong Kong athletes who medalled at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD). The Club presented over HK$6.84 million in cash incentives to the Hong Kong team, which won an impressive 11 gold, 23 silver, and 26 bronze medals at the Games.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki; Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Hua You; Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Raistlin Lau Chun; HKJC Chairman Martin Liao Cheung-kong; Hong Kong Sports Institute Chairman Tang King-shing; President of China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee Jenny Fung Ma Kit-han and others.
Officiating at the ceremony, Chan praised the athletes’ determination and spirit, and thanked the Jockey Club for its support, noting that this is the first time cash awards have been presented to medallists at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities through the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme (JCAIAS).
Liao also lauded the team’s achievements, emphasizing their contribution to promoting inclusion and raising awareness of para sports in Hong Kong.
Boccia athlete Leung Yuk-wing, who won two gold medals at the Games, said it was especially meaningful to win on home soil and thanked the community for their support.
Table tennis athlete Wong Ting-ting, who claimed three bronze medals, said she was honoured to compete and motivated to achieve even more for Hong Kong.
In support of the National Games co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau for the first time, HKJC committed over HK$500 million to the Hong Kong and Guangdong Competition Regions. As the sole Partner Sponsor of the Hong Kong Competition Region, it supported volunteer service programmes, territory-wide community and school promotional activities, as well as initiatives to help underprivileged groups and young people attend the events as spectators.
