29-year-old PolyU PhD student dies after collapsing at canteen

A 29-year-old male PhD student collapsed while having lunch at a canteen on Yuk Choi Road, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hung Hom on Thursday (Mar 12) around noon.

Paramedics rushed him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but he was later pronounced dead. The cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem.

Sources said the man held a Hong Kong identity card and had been studying at PolyU since 2023. He lived in Hung Hom and was reportedly independent. He was dining alone at the time, and his medical history is not yet known.
