The Consumer Council has received 24 complaints, involving over HK$63,000, after Taiwanese band Mayday canceled the opening night of its 25th Anniversary Tour at Kai Tak Main Stadium on March 24, as of 1pm Tuesday (Mar 10).
The largest single claim is HK$6,700, with complaints citing disrupted travel plans and difficulties in switching show dates. Eight complaints came from local fans, while 16 were from visitors from outside Hong Kong.
Mayday had originally scheduled shows on March 24, 25, 27 and 28, with ticket prices ranging from HK$555 to HK$1,855. On Monday (Mar 9), the organizer suddenly announced on social media that an extra show would be held on March 29, the band’s debut day, to celebrate their 29th anniversary, and that the March 24 opening night would be canceled.
The organizer said the decision was made to “ensure all shows are presented at their best and allow fans to fully enjoy the special birthday moments,” and confirmed that ticket holders for the canceled show are eligible for refunds.
The council urged the organizer to consider alternative arrangements to minimize disruption and reminded consumers to keep transaction records in case of disputes. It also highlighted that under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, misleading business practices or improper conduct can carry fines of up to HK$500,000 and up to five years’ imprisonment.
