Hong Kong’s consumer watchdog has received 111 complaints over the cancellation of the opening show of Taiwanese band Mayday’s upcoming concerts at Kai Tak Sports Park.
The Consumer Council said that as of 5 p.m. Wednesday (Mar 11), the complaints involved about HK$296,000, with the highest individual case reaching HK$8,000.
Mayday had earlier announced concerts at Kai Tak Stadium on March 24, 25, 27 and 28. The band later canceled the March 24 opening show and added a new performance on March 29, which marks the group’s debut anniversary, sparking dissatisfaction among fans.
Of the complaints received, 42 were filed by local consumers while 69 came from non-local consumers, most of them from mainland China.
The council said local complaints mainly concerned the organizer’s failure to offer priority options for purchasing or exchanging tickets for other shows. Non-local complainants, meanwhile, said the organizer did not compensate them for travel and accommodation expenses.
