Hong Kong Airlines is set to increase its passenger fuel surcharges starting Thursday (Mar 12), with one-way fees rising by as much as HK$150.
Under the new adjustments, the surcharge for flights to Taiwan will increase from HK$162 to HK$182. Routes to Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Southeast Asia will rise from HK$162 to HK$212.
For longer routes, the surcharge for the Maldives will jump from HK$284 to HK$384, while flights to Australia and Canada will see the steepest hike, increasing from HK$589 to HK$739.
This means travelers on these long-haul routes could pay an additional HK$300 for a round-trip ticket.
Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific has not announced any immediate adjustments. As of March 1, the airline’s fuel surcharge for tickets originating in Hong Kong stood at HK$569.
The flag carrier stated that it has an established mechanism to review fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis.
The airline emphasized that during these reviews, it primarily references the market price trends of aviation jet fuel rather than crude oil prices, while also taking other relevant operational factors into account.
