Just last month, the Club launched the Jockey Club Community Golf Programme to increase public interest and participation in the sport, with the long-term aim of strengthening community engagement and youth development in Hong Kong.
The programme features a range of school-based activities, training courses and inter-school competitions, with complimentary event tickets made available to people from underprivileged communities. In the lead-up to the LIV Golf Hong Kong tournament, participating international players visited a local primary school to engage with students and inspire interest in the sport. Arrangements were also made for HKGC golf professionals to mentor young players of differing abilities. The goal is to provide opportunities for young and underprivileged people to experience the excitement of golf both on and off the course.
The Club’s booth in the LIV Golf Hong Kong fan village offered visitors the chance to learn about different sports, with members of the Club’s CARE@HKJC Volunteer Team on hand to create balloon figures and keep the crowds entertained.
Top international players from the “M” Mark golf tournament were invited to sample the city’s culture with trips to Tai Kwun in Central and Happy Wednesday races at Happy Valley Racecourse – showcasing Hong Kong’s diverse and vibrant appeal.
In this way both tournament visitors and leading golfers from overseas were able to fully appreciate the city’s unique charm as well as its capacity for hosting premier events, promoting the Hong Kong brand and providing positive stories to share about the city.
The Club’s support for these initiatives, like all its charity and community donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and responsible sports wagering generate substantial tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for Hong Kong.
