Hu, who officially assumed the vice-chancellor position last month, told media on Tuesday that the anniversary activities, including public lectures and community collaboration projects, aim to embody the university's motto of "Cultivating virtues of benevolence; broadening horizon and knowledge" and transform knowledge into action serving society.
"The university will give back to society through concrete actions, cultivating students' professional abilities while upholding the mission of serving society, nurturing the next generation with value judgment and social responsibility," Hu said.
Chief Vice-President Catherine Sun Tien-lun revealed that the university enrolled about 2,100 new students in the 2025/26 academic year, with undergraduates accounting for over 88 percent and non-local students comprising 23 percent of undergraduates. Local student admissions are expected to remain stable at around 1,300 for 2026/27.
A new International Foundation Year Programme launched in September 2024, the first in Hong Kong designed specifically for international students, has enrolled about 40 students from Pakistan, India, and Russia.
Regarding infrastructure development, Sun said a Wan Chai campus site is proposed for conversion into a student dormitory. If approval proceeds smoothly, renovation could complete by end of 2026, providing about 170 places for local and non-local students by 2027.
An eight-storey new complex named "Chung Chi-yung Hu Hung-lick Campus" is planned for Braemar Hill Road, between St Joan of Arc Secondary School and Braemar Hill Road Playground. The approximately 6,000-square-meter site will house teaching facilities, research facilities, student dormitories, and ancillary services for 800 to 1,000 students. Sun said the project is in the land-grant stage, with completion targeted for 2032.
On artificial intelligence integration, Academic Vice-President Selina Chan Ching emphasized the university will continue incorporating information and digital technology elements across disciplines, with students required to properly declare and cite AI usage.
