The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) conferred Honorary Doctorates upon four prominent and distinguished leaders in recognition of their contributions across diverse fields, including public policy, scientific research and the arts.
The recipients were Tommy Cheung Yu-yan, a non-official member of the Executive Council; Michael Hui Koon-man, a renowned filmmaker; Lau Siu-kai, the Hong Kong member of the 10th to 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; and Sunney Xie Xiaoliang, an internationally renowned biophysical chemist.
The chairman of the CUHK Council John Chai Yat-chiu presided at the 96th Congregation for the Conferment of Honorary Degrees that was held yesterday.
Cheung, being conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws, was praised for devoting his life and work to the stability and prosperity of the city.
Hui and Lau were awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science for their contributions to Hong Kong’s arts and policy development, respectively.
Xie was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science for his leadership in scientific advancement, dedication to academic excellence and outstanding research at the intersection of chemistry and biology.
