LIV Golf Hong Kong will tee off at the Fanling Golf Course on Thursday, with police estimating that nearly 7,000 ticketed spectators will attend the event each day.
This year’s tournament has been expanded to four full days, adding an extra competition day to the schedule.
Andy Kwok Wing-leung, captain of the Hong Kong Golf Club, said the additional day will allow golfers and spectators to stay in Hong Kong longer, helping to boost the city’s mega-events economy and sports tourism.
The tournament format has also been expanded from 54 holes to 72 holes.
As the sporting event offering the highest prize money in Hong Kong, LIV Golf has increased its total prize purse for the first time this year to US$30 million (HK$235 million), representing a 20 percent rise compared with previous editions.
According to the club, facilities and the overall scale of the event have been upgraded.
The VIP seating area has been expanded from one level to two, accommodating more high-spending spectators. The players’ lounge has also been extended to two levels, with a dedicated gym on the ground floor to better meet players’ needs.
Australian DJ and music producer Dom Dolla will perform a live concert on Saturday at the Fan Village. The venue has been expanded to accommodate up to 7,000 people — a significant increase compared with the past two years.
Police will deploy officers to implement crowd control and special traffic arrangements along Ching Shing Road, Po Kin Road and Fan Kam Road in Sheung Shui.
As Fan Kam Road is relatively narrow, authorities have advised members of the public to use public transportation and the free shuttle buses arranged by the organizers to minimize congestion.
Tow trucks will be placed on standby during peak hours to handle incidents and restore traffic flow in the event of an accident.
Drivers are advised to follow road signage along Fan Kam Road and comply with instructions from on-site police officers. Parking will only be permitted in designated areas provided by the organizers.
Taxi passengers should follow arrangements made by the organizers and police at the temporary pick-up and drop-off point on the eastbound Po Kin Road near the Fan Kam Road detour in Sheung Shui before walking to the golf course.
Due to the expected large crowds and security screening requirements, gates will open two hours earlier each day to allow ticket holders to enter the venue.
