The Hong Kong Observatory has reminded the public to bring umbrellas when heading out, as showers associated with an upper-air disturbance are affecting western Guangxi and gradually moving eastward toward the Pearl River Estuary. Meanwhile, a northeast monsoon is also affecting Guangdong.
The observatory forecasts that Hong Kong will be mostly cloudy today, with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to turn cooler tonight.
Weather conditions may also affect visibility of a total lunar eclipse scheduled to take place this evening, subject to cloud cover.
According to the observatory, the moon will be completely engulfed in the Earth’s umbra at 7.04pm, marking the start of the total eclipse phase. The maximum eclipse will occur at 7.34pm, and the moon will begin to exit the umbra at 8.03pm. The totality phase will last 59 minutes.
The next total lunar eclipse visible in Hong Kong is expected to occur on January 1, 2029.
