Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to fall on Tuesday as a cold front moves across the southern China coast, causing a rapid drop of about 8 degrees Celsius in a single day.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory’s nine-day weather forecast, tomorrow (Mar 2) will see a high of 25 degrees Celsius and a low of 21 degrees, with brief sunshine during the day followed by scattered showers and the possibility of thunderstorms.
The weather will turn much cooler on Tuesday (Lantern Festival), with a minimum temperature of 17 degrees. Ta Kwu Ling could dip to about 15 degrees while Wong Chuk Hang and Sheung Shui may fall to roughly 16 degrees.
Upper-level disturbance will bring showers on Tuesday, and a persistent north-easterly monsoon from mid-week will keep mornings slightly cooler and gradually improve the overall outlook.
The weather watchdog recently said that Hong Kong may experience “Shi Hu Feng” this week if mesoscale meteorological conditions such as low-level wind shear and high atmospheric instability are met.
“Shi Hu Feng” is a local term for sudden, violent gusts and heavy, squally showers associated with a fast-moving cold front or line of intense thunderstorms known as a squall line.
