Eight elaborately designed Lunar New Year floats from the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade have arrived at Kai Tak Sports Park for the first time, turning Hong Kong’s newest major sports and entertainment landmark into a festive carnival from February 18 to 26.
Following the grand parade on Lunar New Year’s Day, the floats are on static display at three locations—Water Sky Fountain, Central Square and Pier Gallery—allowing close-up viewing of their creative designs and craftsmanship.
They light up after 5.30pm, creating striking nighttime photo opportunities distinct from daytime scenes.
To heighten the festive mood, two outdoor stages at Water Sky Fountain and Central Square host live performances by international troupes from mainland China and overseas on February 18 and 19 from 2.30pm to 6.30pm.
Audiences can enjoy dynamic dances, skilled acrobatics and vibrant cultural shows in the fresh open space of the sports park.
The event combines a float exhibition, world-class performances and public leisure space to offer families, friends and visitors a novel way to experience Lunar New Year through photos, entertainment and holiday atmosphere.
Additionally, the documentary “Game On, Kai Tak” extends public screenings at the HSBC Presents Kai Tak Gallery until February 27. Free admission requires registration; completing a short survey afterwards earns a CAFÉ by LUBUDS voucher for a drink worth up to HK$45.
Participating float organizations include Hong Kong Tourism Board, Cathay, Asia Tourism Exchange Centre, Hong Kong Disneyland, McDonald’s Hong Kong, Quality Tourism Services Association and Macau Government Tourism Office.
