A driver suspected of hitting two police officers with his car and fleeing the scene in Tsim Sha Tsui last Wednesday has been arrested.
After an in-depth investigation, police arrested the 28-year-old Lau surnamed man at a Hung Hom unit on Tuesday. Inside the unit, officers also arrested his 30-year-old girlfriend on suspicion of assisting an offender. On Wednesday, police arrested the man's 68-year-old mother at Lok Ma Chau on the same allegation.
The man has been provisionally charged with one count each of furious driving, assaulting police, and resisting arrest. His girlfriend has been provisionally charged with one count of assisting an offender. Their case will be heard at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts on Friday. The mother has been released on bail pending further investigation and must report back to police in late February.
The incident occurred around 11.30pm last Wednesday at the junction of Hillwood Road and Nathan Road. Officers from the traffic Kowlon West spotted a suspicious private car. When they approached, the driver refused to cooperate and sped off, injuring two male officers. They were conscious and taken to hospital.
The case is being handled by the Yau Tsim district criminal investigation team. During the investigation, police found the man had entered an industrial unit on Wang Tai Road in Kwun Tong. A search of that unit yielded a small quantity of suspected cocaine. The 39-year-old female operator of that unit was previously arrested for allegedly assisting an offender and possessing a dangerous drug. She has been released on bail and must report back to police in mid-February.
