The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong has urged authorities to ensure smoother border clearance for passengers traveling by public transport and their vehicles at the new Huanggang Port.
The call was among a series of proposals submitted by the DAB after its representatives inspected the new Huanggang Port building, which is expected to be officially commissioned later this year.
A “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” model will be adopted at the port, with immigration services available on each floor of the facility.
The DAB said it raised concerns with the authorities over potential waiting times arising from separate inspections for passengers and vehicles, warning that this could cause inconvenience to travelers.
In response, the authorities have pledged to optimize process design and the layout of document-processing counters, the party said.
They will also introduce measures within the port to facilitate the reunion of passengers and vehicles after clearance, and have agreed to provide shelter and improve traffic flow in dispersal areas to speed up circulation.
Space has also been reserved for future connections to metro lines from both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, enabling passengers using public transport to access the collaborative inspection counters for clearance.
The DAB added that the main structure of the new port building has already been capped.
