While the Hong Kong Observatory has issued a Cold Weather Warning under the influence of the winter monsoon, some residents said the temperature drop felt less severe than expected.
Temperatures dipped to around 15 degrees Celsius in urban areas on Wednesday morning, with colder readings recorded in parts of the New Territories.
Ta Kwu Ling and Tai Mei Tuk fell to about 12 degrees, while Sha Tin, Lau Fau Shan, Sai Kung, and Tseung Kwan O recorded temperatures of around 13 degrees.
At the East Coast Boardwalk in North Point, residents were seen wearing light down jackets and coats as cooler conditions and stronger winds set in. Some said they added an extra thermal layer for warmth but felt the chill was milder compared with the previous cold spell earlier this winter.
Others described the weather as similar to recent days, though they prepared additional outerwear to cope with day-to-night temperature changes.
A runner said that while winds were noticeably stronger than last week, the gradual drop in temperature made the cold easier to manage. He added that cooler weather reduced sweating and could improve running performance.
The Observatory forecast that it will remain mainly cloudy and cold in the coming days. The winter monsoon is expected to be replaced by a fresh to strong easterly airstream over the weekend, with temperatures gradually rising early next week.
