A Dutch male passenger was pronounced dead after collapsing on a Cathay Pacific flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong on Sunday morning.
The 72-year-old passenger, identified as Antonie, was traveling with his 69-year-old wife on flight CX270, which departed from Amsterdam on Saturday (Jan 10) with a scheduled arrival in Hong Kong on Sunday.
It is understood that the couple planned to transfer a flight to Melbourne for a family visit.
According to reports, Antonie experienced a severe headache around 5am during the flight. He sought assistance from a flight assistant, who provided him with medication after learning of his medical history.
About two hours later, Antonie reportedly vomited and subsequently lost consciousness around 7.10am.
The cabin crew immediately alerted the captain and made an onboard call for medical assistance, where a 57-year-old male passenger who identified himself as a doctor administered first aid.
After landing at Hong Kong International Airport at 7.40am, Antonie was rushed to North Lantau Hospital and was pronounced dead at 8.34am.
In a statement to police, the wife confirmed that Antonie had no known chronic disease record. Initial investigations suggest there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and the case has been transferred to the Airport District for further investigation.
