Police said that at about 9.21am, staff from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department were carrying out maintenance work on a natural trail, filling potholes with stones, when they came across an object suspected to be an explosive.
Officers were called to the scene and confirmed after inspection that the item was a British military grenade dating back to World War II, measuring roughly the size of half a palm.
Personnel from the police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau responded to the scene and sealed off an area of about 100 meters around the site. The grenade was later safely dealt with on site.
No injuries were reported, and no evacuation was required.
